Rules

Welcome!

These are the rules. Please follow them! We'd like to make this game as drama-free as possible, and that all hangs on everybody getting along. We're all mature adults here, so let's keep as laid-back and fun as we possibly can.

Activity & Hiatuses

Keeping your characters active is obviously important in a game, so we ask that you post for them at least once (but preferably more) during each activity period. This can be a journal entry, or it can be a post/thread in either [info]reincarnatecomm, [info]thereincarnates or (a fun, new addition for back stories and AU plots) [info]reincarnateau. Activity periods generally go for six weeks (which you can always find marked on the calendar), and if you fail to meet the above listed requirements then you will have one additional activity period to get your character(s) active again before he or she is removed from the game.

Additionally, under special circumstances, we allow players to request a hiatus that extends past one month, a month being our general time allotted to those who request a hiatus. After that all your characters will be considered inactive and will effectively be dropped by the end of the next AC if there is no activity or notice from the player that more time is needed. Of course, exceptions are always made for extenuating circumstances. Additionally, while on hiatus players are expected to abstain from posting IC until they are officially back in the game and accounted for in the month's AC.

PBs & Icons

Because of the nature of this game, characters are not allowed to have the same PB as their reincarnates. For example, Han Solo cannot be PB'd by Harrison Ford, but he can be PB'd by Joe Anderson. Other than that, go crazy! Your PB can reflect your character's reincarnate as much as you want, but if you want them to be complete opposites, that's fine too. Just be mindful of the PBs that are already taken, and if you want someone in particular, go here to place a hold.

On a similar note: We're no longer allowing icons with text to be used in the game. We haven't had that much of a problem with this, but as a whole we've decided that these kind of icons are not appropriate and can be easily avoided when choosing icons for your character. If you're having trouble finding icons for a certain PB, we suggest checking out the memories at [info]wikicon.

Characters

All characters from all fandoms and all mediums are welcome here, no matter how popular or obscure. However, you are expected to know as much about your character as possible prior to bringing them into the game. Keep up with their fandom and pay attention to any new developments that directly concern him or her. This is all on you - we can't keep track of this for you! You should also be logical about what abilities and talents your character will get from their reincarnate. Don't assume that they're getting everything all at once, and the more room for character development, the better!

Our one solid rule about characters is that we don't allow doubles. For instance, since Snow White from Fables is in play, we won't accept an application for the Disney version of that character, or any other versions, no matter how off-the-wall. This is simply to avoid confusion. Barring that, however, you are free to app whomever you choose.

Additionally: your character must be older than 13, and keep in mind that any character under the age of 18 cannot participate in anything rated NC-17. Other than that, we don't frown upon R or NC-17 rated subject material in threads, just make sure that if you're going to be threading something of that kind of material or anything trigger warning related to rate it as such in the thread info to warn others. If there's anything in the starter, please keep it behind a cut.

Apping & Dropping

There's no character cap here. As long as you keep active and are honest with yourself about what you can feasibly handle, we're not going to put a numerical limit on alts. Likewise, sometimes ideas that sound great in an application don't work out in actual game play, and we're not going to penalize people for the occasional drop. That said, if you can't stay active and you're constantly cycling through alts, please don't be surprised if the mods approach you about scaling back.

Additionally: If you're apping a TV character, you only have to watch one season before you app him or her. Of course, once the character is apped, we encourage you to finish watching the show just for continuity's sake, and to keep up with canon for other players within that same fandom. The same applies to characters from a series of books or comics as well.

Journal Etiquette, or IC vs. OOC

Characters are not players and vice versa. A snide, rude, or disagreeing comment on a journal is not necessarily a personal attack on you, the player. Keeping IC and OOC separate is pretty much a rule in all games, and this one is no different. Likewise, if you're angry at a player, don't take it out on them IC (or OOC, obviously, we'd prefer to keep the drama out entirely though we know it does happen). If you're uncomfortable with the level to which something IC has been taken, please deal with this in a productive manner by approaching the person or a mod. In the event of problems, please try to work it out with the other person first. The mods can and will mediate, but often problems can be solved more easily if they're addressed early and between the two people involved.

Additionally, god-modding and meta-gaming are not welcome here. We understand that it happens on accident sometimes, but as a general rule, this will not be tolerated. This is a collaborative game that relies heavily on balanced interactions from all players; no one person controls every aspect of it. As long as you keep that in mind, you'll be golden. As for the subject of Mary Sue's, as long as you leave some differences between your character and their reincarnate, there's no harm in writing a mirror image. Sometimes that's more fun, just make sure they're their own person too! This is a reincarnate panfandom, not a panfandom. Subtle difference, but it's there.

Another note: we have two other journals for nefarious purposes (as our purposes usually are), [info]reincarnatenpc and [info]reincarnateanon. The NPC journal is mainly used by the mods when an NPC character is needed for a plot that doesn't require full play, though players may be granted access to it based on circumstance. The anon journal is for everyone's use, largely for anonymous dealings. Mostly anonymous game wide events (masquerade parties, mystery nights, etc), but could also be used for other things. Just like any other plot that affects the game and characters at large, ideas must be run by the mods first, otherwise we encourage this journal to be used at the player's disposal. Password given out to players only.

FORMAT

You'll see a lot of strike throughs on the journals in this game – keep in mind that they are not readable to other characters. They're a convention to show something that the character thought about saying but didn't, or typed and deleted. Also, journal entries can be set 'private' to particular people, just as IJ allows custom friends filters. Please be specific about who is permitted to see an entry - 'Bob, John, and Billy' is okay, but 'Friends' is vague and can lead to confusion about who qualifies and who doesn't. Finally, threads and logs posted in the [info]thereincarnates community should be formatted similar to the block below.

Characters: (Or 'Who.' The characters in the log.)
Date: (Or 'When.' The day/time the log happens.)
Setting: (Or 'Where.' The location where the action happens.)
About: (Or 'What.' A brief summary about the log.)
Rating: (Using MPAA ratings. This lets people know if there's going to be excessive violence or NSFW content.)
